Senior Consultant
İsmail Can completed his secondary education at Istanbul Erkek Lisesi. He graduated from Boğaziçi University with a degree in Computer Science in 1976 and later earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same university in 1980.
He began his professional career in 1980 and worked at Efes Pilsen and Boral Engineering between 1980 and 1984. During this period, he served as Design Team Leader for the mechanical systems of the Petlas Tire Factory projects. At the end of 1984, he relocated to Australia.
Between 1985 and 1993, he worked on the mechanical design of high-rise buildings in Australia and Singapore. Major projects during this period include:

• Hobart Sheraton Hotel – Australia
• Cairns Parkroyal Hotel – Cairns, Australia
• Shangri-La International Hotel – Jakarta, Indonesia

In 1993, he returned to Istanbul and founded Birikim Engineering Project Ltd. Between 1993 and 2013, he completed the mechanical system design of over 100 medium and large-scale projects. Key projects from this period include:

In 2013, he moved back to Australia and specialized in the mechanical design of critical facilities such as cleanrooms, R&D centers, laboratories, data centers, and hospitals. Major projects between 2014 and 2022 include:

• Sypharma Pharmaceuticals – Melbourne, Australia
• Mass Spectroscopy and Cryogenic Laboratories for Monash, Swinburne, and Melbourne Universities – Melbourne, Australia
• Australian Antarctic Research Laboratories – Tasmania, Australia
• Australian National University Semiconductor Development Centre – Canberra, Australia
• Various hospital projects
In 2022, he relocated to London and joined Arup Engineering Group as a Senior Consultant, focusing on decarbonization, energy efficiency, and large-scale data centers. Key projects between 2022 and 2024 include:
• Francis Crick Institute – decarbonization, data center, and sustainable cooling water systems – London, UK
• 1 Triton Square Research Institute – decarbonization and energy efficiency systems – London, UK
• Khorfakkan Research Institute – mechanical systems design – UAE
He returned to Istanbul in mid-2024 and is currently working as a Senior Consultant at Arup Engineering Turkey, focusing on large data centers and decarbonization projects.
